GMT Knives: Born from Passion, Built for Adventure
At GMT, our story begins in the wild. Guillermo Garcimonte, a Spanish architect and lifelong hunter, has been crafting his own knives for over 15 years. His passion for knife-making grew beyond a hobby and evolved into a relentless pursuit of craftsmanship. Determined to push the boundaries of what a knife could be, Guillermo studied under the legendary Master Smith Joe Keeslar, who taught him the art and science of bladesmithing. Their bond was so strong that Keeslar entrusted Guillermo with the honor of using the Keeslar name on his knife stamps—a testament to his exceptional skill.
Guillermo’s dedication led him to become the first person in Spain to achieve the prestigious Journeyman Smith title from the American Blade Society, a significant milestone in the world of knife-making. Now, he’s on the path to becoming a Mastersmith, having already passed the rigorous performance tests and set to present his work for judgment in Atlanta in June 2025. With a two-year waiting list for his custom knives, it’s clear that his craftsmanship is highly sought after by hunters and collectors alike. But for Guillermo, the frustration of not being able to meet the demand, especially for friends and fellow hunters, led him to seek a new path.
It was at a hunting camp in the Pyrenees, chasing stags, that Guillermo met Pedro Ampuero, and GMT was born. Together, they envisioned creating high-performance knives for hunters, ones that could be industrially manufactured but still maintain Guillermo’s exacting standards of quality and precision. Every step of the process—from the design to the materials, thermal treatments, and finishes—reflects Guillermo’s dedication to excellence.
